Selby and Shaud Lead Wouk's Caine Mutiny June 6-10 at L.A. Theatre Works

06 Jun 2001

Murphy Brown"'s Grant Shaud and "Dark Shadows"' David Selby star in novelist Herman Wouk's theatrical adaptation of his Pulitzer Prize winning novel The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, performed for radio by L.A. Theatre Works June 6-10 at the Skirball Cultural Center. Gordon Hunt directs.

Murphy Brown"'s Grant Shaud and "Dark Shadows"' David Selby star in novelist Herman Wouk's theatrical adaptation of his Pulitzer Prize winning novel The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, performed for radio by L.A. Theatre Works June 6-10 at the Skirball Cultural Center. Gordon Hunt directs.

Wouk debuted The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial on Broadway in 1954 (the book also served as the basis for the 1954 Humphrey Bogart film). The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial pits Lieutenant Stephen Maryk and Lieutenant Commander Queeg as Maryk relieves his submarine commander of duty after deciding the Queeg has become too mentally unstable to pilot their World War II sub. He is accused of mutiny and put on trial by the Navy. It is at the trial that The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial takes place. Wouk's eleven novels include "The Winds of War," "War and Remembrance" and "Marjorie Morningstar."

Also in the cast are James Avery, Kenny Williams and Chuma Hunter Gault.

All TheatreWorks theatre productions are recorded for future broadcast on Santa Monica College's KCRW 89.9 FM and are sold on the L.A. Theatre Works homepage at http://www.latw.org. In the past 11 years, productions have won several awards including the Corporation for Public Broadcasting's Gold and Silver Awards, three Sony Awards, the Writer's Guild of America's Best Comedy Award and the 1999 Audie Award for Best Dramatic Production from the Audio Publishers Association. Their recording of The Prisoner of Second Avenue, featuring Richard Dreyfuss and Mason, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Comedy Album.

Tickets are $34-$38. Skirball Cultural Center is located at 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd. For reservations, call (310) 827-0889.
