Last week, the Long Wharf Theatre of New Haven, CT, lost their world premiere musical, Spring Awakening, due to the scheduling demands of Michael Mayer (Thoroughly Modern Millie). This week, it's the East Coast premiere of David Ives' Polish Joke, cancelled because of 2002 Tony winner John Rando's limited availability.

Last week, the Long Wharf Theatre of New Haven, CT, lost their world premiere musical, Spring Awakening, due to the scheduling demands of Michael Mayer (Thoroughly Modern Millie). This week, it's the East Coast premiere of David Ives' Polish Joke, cancelled because of 2002 Tony winner John Rando's limited availability.

All is not darkness, however. The company has gained a topical world premiere play, Sixteen Wounded. Set in Holland, this drama from Eliam Kraiem traces the unlikely friendship between a Jewish baker and his Palestinian apprentice. Sixteen Wounded will play the intimate Stage II Feb. 5-March 16, 2003, in place of Ruben Santiago-Hudson's Lackwanna Blues, which will replace Spring Awakening on the mainstage Jan. 8-Feb. 9, 2003.

A replacement for Ives' Polish Joke has not yet been named. The rest of the Long Wharf season includes Charles L. Mee's Wintertime (Oct. 2-Nov. 3), Steven Drukman's Going Native (Oct. 23-Nov. 24), Jane Alexander in Mourning Becomes Electra (Nov. 19-Dec. 22), Marivaux's Triumph of Love (April 30-June 1, 2003) and Donald Margulies' Two Days (April 2-May 11, 2003).
