Matthew Warchus, who piloted Art, will stage Life. Since Art, Warchus has scored a hit with True West and a miss with the Broadway revival of Follies.
The producer Ron Kastner said of the casting, "We're out to some major names."
In Life, a couple are putting their son to bed when their dinner guests arrive — 24 hours early! The unexpected evening then splits into three possible outcomes — hence the play's title.
Life x 3 was first seen at the National Theatre in December 2000, from where it moved to the Old Vic in February 2001.
