Kimbrough and Gurney Hit a Wall Off-Broadway, Beginning Oct. 30

Actor Charles Kimbrough and playwright A.R. Gurney, who teamed memorably on Later Life and Sylvia, will reunite in the Primary Stages New York premiere of The Fourth Wall, set to begin previews Off Broadway Oct. 30. David Saint directs.

Also in the cast are Sandy Duncan, Susan Sullivan and David Pittu.

The Fourth Wall—which has been bouncing around the regions for more than a decade, but has been recently reworked by the author—is about a group of urbanites whose lives are changed when they suddenly realize the fourth wall of their apartment opens up onto a watching audience.

Kimbrough played one of Gurney's reserved patrician men in the wistful Later Life, which had an extended run at Playwrights Horizons several years back. Shortly after that, he was the owner of the title dog played by Sarah Jessica Parker in Sylvia. The plays represent Gurney two biggest successes during the '90s.

Since then, the "Murphy Brown" actor has been seen in Tartuffe in Central Park. Kimbrough's other theatre credits include two famed Sondheim premieres: Sunday in the Park with George and Company.

For tickets to shows at Primary Stages, 354 West 45 Street (between Eighth and Ninth Ave.), call (212) 333-4052. For more information, visit them online at www.primarystages.com.
