Rebecca Pidgeon and Eddie Kaye Thomas lead the company reading On the Waterfront for a BBC and L.A. Theatre Works radio production. The 1995 play based on the 1954 Oscar-winning film will be performed Dec. 11-15 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles for future broadcast in L.A., Great Britain and on the BBC's world service.

"On the Waterfront" the film starred Marlon Brando as ex-prizefighter-turned-longshoreman Terry Mallory, Karl Malden as Father Barry and Eva Marie Saint as Edie in a brutal tale about union corruption and murder on the New York City waterfront. Brando immortalized the line "I coulda been a contender" and the critically-hailed popular film became first a novel in 1955, then a Broadway play in 1995, co-scripted by the film's author Budd Schulberg and Stan Silverman. Schulberg, now 87, will attend the readings of the play in L.A.

Pidgeon's credits include many of her husband David Mamet's films and plays, including "The Winslow Boy," "The Spanish Prisoner," "State and Main," "Heist" and Boston Marriage and The Old Neighborhood. Primarily known as a film actor ("American Pie 1 & 2," "Freddy Got Fingered," "Black and White"), Thomas recently appeared Off-Broadway in the New Group's Smelling a Rat.

Also in the cast are Raphael Sbarge, Josh Stamberg, Maurice Chasse, Kevin Daniels, Nick Offerman, Stephen Ramsey and Tegan West.

Tickets range from $10-$42. All performances are at the Skirball Cultural Center at 2701 North Sepulveda Boulevard. For reservations and information, call (310) 827-0889.

All Theatre Works theatre productions are recorded for future broadcast on public radio KPCC (Saturday nights on 89.3 FM), on XM Satellite Radio and are sold on the L.A. Theatre Works homepage at http://www.latw.org. In the past 14 years, productions have won several awards including the Corporation for Public Broadcasting's Gold and Silver Awards, three Sony Awards, the Writer's Guild of America's Best Comedy Award and the 1999 Audie Award for Best Dramatic Production from the Audio Publishers Association. Their recording of The Prisoner of Second Avenue, featuring Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason, was recently nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Comedy Album.
