Debbie Does Dallas Live on TV; New Debbie Performs on WB, Jan 10

From film to video to the stage and now to television.

The Off-Broadway production of Debbie Does Dallas — based on its infamous adult film namesake — will appear on the WB-11's Morning Show Jan. 10 at 8:30 AM in the New York area. Jamie Day, currently starring as the title role will perform the show's song, "Small Town Girl," live.

Day, who portrayed Debbie in the workshop stages of the play with music, took over the role after Sherie René Scott's departure Jan. 4. Her counterpart, male understudy Jeff Skowron, also succeeded Paul Fitzgerald in various male roles the same day. Producers are intending to recast with a celebrity shortly.

The upcoming Debbie Does Dallas original cast recording is due out Jan. 14 and features a whopping 42 tracks. The CD is being released by Sh-K-Boom Records also includes two instrumental karaoke tracks and a special bonus track medley.

Debbie Does Dallas opened at the Jane Street Theatre, Oct. 29. The production, which started performances Oct. 8, takes its story from the popular porn film with the same name.

The dimly-lit Jane Street Theatre is given a strip joint feel — with a fully-stocked bar in the rear and a set that includes two go-go poles— for the play with-music by adapter director Erica Schmidt. The production, which lasts approximately 90 minutes (with no intermission), takes major liberties with the film, adding original contemporary music by Andrew Sherman. Debbie Does Dallas still, however, revolves around the aforementioned smalltown girl and her unstoppable quest to become a Dallas cheerleader.

Tom Kitt is musical supervisor. The artistic team features Jennifer Cody (choreography), Juman Malouf (costumes), Christine Jones (sets), Shelly Sabel (lighting) and Laura Grace Brown (sound).

The Off-Broadway production (produced by special arrangement with VCX Limited) is produced by The Araca Group (Urinetown, the Musical, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune), Jam Theatricals and Waxman-Williams Entertainment.
