Be Blue! Off-Broadway's Blue Man Group Holds Open Audition, March 24

21 Mar 2003

Off-Broadway's long-running Blue Man Group Tubes will hold an open audition for new cast members, March 24. All wanna-blues should venture downtown to the Astor Place Theatre between noon and 5 PM.

Both male and female performers are encouraged to attend the audition. Basic Blue Man requirements include:

  • Between 5'10" and 6'1" tall (weight proportionate to height)
  • Excellent drumming and acting skills
  • The emotional range to communicate great joy, wonder, and depth
  • Willingness to relocate

Created by Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton and Chris Wink, the group began performing on the streets of Manhattan and then graduated to downtown venues as P.S. 122 and Dixon Place. After a stint at 1991's Lincoln Center Serious Fun Festival and an Obie-winning run at La MaMa, Blue Man Group opened their Tubes at Off Broadway's Astor Place Theatre Nov. 17, 1991. It continues there. The production also has companies in Chicago, Boston and Las Vegas.

The group was featured in the 2001 Grammy Awards in artist Moby's performance with songstress Jill Scott. Their debut Grammy-nominated album, "Audio," has gone Gold. Blue Man Group also joined Moby, David Bowie, Busta Rhymes and other bands for last year's "Area: 2" summer tour. (The trio is also featured in television commercials for Pentium.)

Their next album, "The Complex" — featuring collaborations with Dave Matthews, Tracy Bonham, Dan the Automator and more — is set to be released April 22.

For additional information about auditions, contact Karen Rockower at (212) 226-6366 ext. 227 or visit www.blueman.com. Astor Place Theatre is located at 434 Lafayette Street.
