Charles Nelson Reilly-Helmed Harvey Headed for Broadway

The upcoming production of Mary Chase's Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy Harvey at Boston's Wang Performing Arts Center is Broadway-bound, Playbill On-Line has learned.
Harvey will play at California's Laguna Playhouse in August prior to its pre-Broadway engagement in Beantown, Sept. 9-23. The show hopes to reach The Great White Way sometime in the fall, according to production spokespersons. Don Gregory produces.
Charles Nelson Reilly (of "Match Game" fame) will direct the new staging of Harvey starring Charles Durning and Dick Cavett. The plotline follows a man who befriends a 6-foot-3-inch rabbit that only he can see.
Reilly has previously directed Broadway productions of The Belle of Amherst, Paul Robeson, Break a Leg, The Nerd and most recently The Gin Game. Reilly will helm the Broadway run.
Durning starred in The Gin Game, among other numerous Broadway credits including Gore Vidal's The Best Man, Inherit the Wind, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and That Championship Season. Cavett recently appeared as the Narrator in the revival of The Rocky Horror Show and did replacement stints in the original productions of Into the Woods and Otherwise Engaged. No casting for the Broadway production is set as of yet.
Harvey originally played on Broadway at the 48th Street Theatre, opening Nov. 1, 1944. The production, helmed by Tony Awards namesake Antoinette Perry, played 1,775 performances before closing Jan. 15, 1949. The Pulitzer winner was adapted for the screen in 1950 and starred James Stewart.
