Mos Def (Fucking A, Topdog/Underdog) will return to host the third season of Russell Simmons' "Def Poetry Jam," the inspiration behind the current Broadway production. The debut episode will premiere on HBO, April 4.

The show, which recently won a Peabody Award, a recognition for excellence in television, airs Fridays (late Thursday nights) at 12:30 (ET). Check your local listings.

On the season premiere, Black Ice from the stage Def Poetry Jam will be featured among such poets as Rives, Bassey Ikpi, Poem-cees, Helena D. Lewis, Daniel Beatty, Suheir and Rupert Estanisiao. World-renowned poet and actor Mutabaruka and songstress Jill Scott will also be featured.

The theatrical Def Poetry Jam debuted at San Francisco's Theatre on the Square, although the HBO specials have been popular for some time. Presented by Russell Simmons and Stan Lathan, in association with Kimora Lee Simmons, Island Def Jam Music Group, Brett Ratner and David Rosenberg, Def Poetry Jam is conceived by Lathan and Simmons. Lathan directs.

For tickets to Def Poetry Jam at the Longacre Theatre, 220 West 48th Street, call (212) 239-6200. For more information, visit www.defpoetryjamnyc.com.
