Murney, Skinner, Ziemba Sing Bock and Harnick at Melting Pot Benefit April 21; Fan Tix Available

By Kenneth Jones
21 Apr 2003

Composer Jerry Bock and lyricist Sheldon Harnick, the musical theatre craftsmen who penned the scores of Fiddler on the Roof, She Loves Me and Fiorello!, will be honored by the Melting Pot Theater Company at an April 21 benefit for the troupe.

The Drama Desk Award-winning Manhattan not-for-profit will present its Third Annual Pioneer Award to Bock and Harnick at a show called Tonight at Eight, a title borrowed from She Loves Me.

The evening is a celebration of the musicals of Bock & Harnick. Harold Prince, Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman are honorary chairs. Fiddler on the Roof, Bock & Harnick's biggest hit, is expected to make a Broadway comeback in late 2003 starring Alfred Molina as Tevye. Molina will be in attendance at the event, as will Alan Alda, who appeared in Bock and Harnick's The Apple Tree.

The evening (with admission beginning at $250) will take place at the Supper Club, 240 W. 47th St. between Broadway and Eighth Avenue, with cocktails beginning at 6:30 PM, dinner at 7:30 PM and concert and award presentation at 8:30 (despite the evening's title). For fans, show-only tickets for $50 can also be purchased, but no later than 2 PM April 21.

The concert includes songs from the team's Fiorello!, Tenderloin, She Loves Me, Fiddler on the Roof, The Apple Tree and The Rothschilds.

The starry cast of Broadway performers and presenters includes The star-studded cast of Broadway performers and presenters includes F. Murray Abraham, Andre De Shields, Scott Ellis, Adam Heller, Keith Byron Kirk, Adrian Lenox, Joanna Merlin, Joseph Stein, Jennifer Westfeldt ("Kissing Jessica Stein"), Diane Sutherland, John Weidman, Julia Murney, Kerry O'Malley, Emily Skinner and Karen Ziemba.

Melting Pot Theater Company's artistic director is Larry Hirschhorn and managing director is Sean Patrick Flahaven.
