Seth Rudetsky Previews Tony Nominations on "Radio Playbill" May 6-12

By Robert Simonson
05 May 2003

Tony nominations will be announced May 12, but sitting in with host Robert Viagas on "Radio Playbill" to preview and predict them the week of May 6-12 is Seth Rudetsky, lively emcee of theatre-insider cabaret show "Seth’s Broadway Chatterbox," and now star of his own Off-Broadway show.

"Radio Playbill" will also play songs from CD of the Week, the original cast album of a little-known Tony Winner, the 1959 Best Musical Redhead, including a bonus track by Liz Callaway, currently appearing on Broadway in The Look of Love. Then, test your knowledge in the weekly Playbill Quiz.

"Radio Playbill," a weekly news and entertainment magazine show of theatrical interviews, features and music, is broadcast 11 times each week on Sirius Satellite Radio's A&E Channel, 137.

The 30-minute weekly show debuts each Tuesday, with rebroadcasts throughout the following week. Here is the schedule (all times are Eastern): Tuesday midnight, 11 AM, 6 PM; Thursday 1 AM, 6 AM, 1 PM and 11 PM; Saturday 5 AM, 11 AM, 5 PM and 11 PM; and Monday 5 AM.

All the excitement and glamour of the American theatre scene comes across in "Radio Playbill," the first radio project from the creators of Broadway's distinctive programs, and Playbill On-Line, the home of theatre on the internet. The program reflects Playbill's unique access and knowledge of the world of Broadway, broadcasting from Sirius' midtown Manhattan studios overlooking Times Square.

Previous guests on "Radio Playbill" have included Brian Stokes Mitchell, Chita Rivera, Michael John LaChiusa, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jerry Herman, Barbara Cook, Michael Crawford, Jason Robert Brown, Lea Salonga, Cy Coleman, Stephen Flaherty, Sherie Rene Scott, Jeanine Tesori, Charles Strouse, Cherry Jones, Baz Luhrman, Maury Yeston, Gerard Alessandrini and many more. The program has offered the first (and sometimes only) chance to hear songs from Hairspray, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Urban Cowboy, Marty, Pamela’s First Musical, Dance of the Vampires and revivals of Into the Woods and Man of La Mancha, among many more shows.

You can now listen to some of the best these with RealPlayer in the "Radio Playbill" archives on Playbill On-Line.

And don't miss Playbill's theatre news headlines, being broadcast throughout the day, seven days a week on Sirius Satellite Radio's "Broadway's Best," Channel 77. This link now takes you directly to the page that lets you listen to the music channel and the news. Click the "listen now" icon.

Host for both the news and the magazine show is Robert Viagas, founding editor of Playbill On-Line and Theatre.com, author of several books on theatre, including "On the Line: The Creation of A Chorus Line" and "The Amazing Story of The Fantasticks," and editor of Louis Botto’s updated book, "At This Theatre."

From its three satellites orbiting over the U.S., Sirius broadcasts 100 channels of digital quality radio throughout the continental United States for a monthly subscription fee of $12.95. Click on Sirius.com to listen to Sirius live, or to find a Sirius retailer in your area.

Sirius delivers 60 original channels of commercial-free music in virtually every genre, and 40 sports, news and entertainment channels. DaimlerChrysler is offering Sirius radios in 17 models of Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles. BMW has announced plans to offer Sirius radios as an accessory in its most popular models through BMW Centers across the country, including select BMW 3 Series, 5 Series and X5 vehicles. Nissan is offering Sirius radios as an option on six Infiniti and Nissan 2003 models, and future Audi and Volkswagen models will also offer Sirius. Sirius also has agreements to install AM/FM/SAT radios in Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Volvo and Mazda vehicles. Kenwood, Clarion, Audiovox, and Jensen satellite receivers, including models that can adapt any car stereo to receive Sirius, are available at retailers such as Circuit City, Best Buy, Sears, Good Guys, Tweeter, Ultimate Electronics and Crutchfield.
