The question, "Do you hear the people sing?," has been asked for 16 years in Broadway's Les Misérables. On May 18, in the new mega-finale added to the milestone final performance of the run, the answer will be, "And how!"

More than 300 performers will sing in the special finale, including cast members from the original company, the current company and 41 children from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania who appeared in recent productions of the "school edition" of Les Misérables, a specially-tailored script aimed at the high-school market.

Among the 300 alumni on stage will be stars, but no names have been revealed. Also on hand will be the original creative team, including producer Cameron Mackintosh, authors Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg and co directors Trevor Nunn and John Caird.

The Broadway run of the French-written, British-refined musical based on the Victor Hugo novel marks performance No. 6,680 May 18. A national tour continues and the show is expected the be seen by generations to come in concert form, school and amateur productions and at regional and stock theatres.

The final performance at the Imperial Theatre is by invitation only. The show and curtain call will play as usual (likely with more breaks than usual for thunderous applause), and then the mega-finale will follow.
