Lynne Alvarez's play delves into the life of celebrated dancer Vaslav Nijinsky and his tumultuous relationship — from courtship to marriage — with Romola DePulsky. David Levine (Shoppers Carried into the Flames by Escalators) directs the work from the playwright, who returns to Primary Stages following the premiere of her 1983 Kesselring Award-winning Hidden Parts.
Robert La Fosse provides choreography for the production. La Fosse is a former principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre and New York City Ballet. As a performer, he garnered a Tony nomination for his turn in Jerome Robbins' Broadway.
David Barlow stars as Nijinsky opposite Kelly Hutchinson as Romola. The company also include Allen Fitzpatrick, Michelle Lookadoo, Laura Martin, John McAdams, Daniel Oreskes and Janet Zarish.
The design team for Romola and Nijinsky features Michael Byrnes (set), Lap Chi Chu (lights), Claudia Stephens (costumes) and Jane Shaw (sound). The production features original music by Brendan Connelly.
