28 May 2003

Turner Classic Movies will celebrate the upcoming Tony Awards with “Countdown to the Tonys: A Film Festival of Tony-Winning Broadway Musicals.”

The movie marathon will begin Friday, June 6 at 8 PM ET with the film version of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” based on the 1962 Tony-winning Best Musical. The evening will also feature broadcasts of “The Music Man” (10:15 PM), “South Pacific” (1 AM) and “42nd Street” (4 AM).

June 7 will also feature four films based on Tony-winning musicals. “Cabaret” — starring Joel Grey and Liza Minnelli — kicks off the evening at 8 PM and will be followed by “Guys and Dolls” (10:15 PM), “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” (1 AM) and “Kiss Me, Kate” (3 AM). For more information about the Turner Classic Movies channel, visit www.turnerclassicmovies.com.

The 57th Annual Tony Awards will be broadcast June 8 on CBS-TV, 8-11 PM ET. Hugh Jackman, due on Broadway in the fall in The Boy From Oz, will host the ceremonies live from Radio City Music Hall.
