Mother-Daughter Prison Drama , Iron, Gets U.S. Premiere by MTC, Oct. 2-Dec. 21

Rona Munro's Iron, seen at the Royal Court Theatre in London earlier this year, has been added to Manhattan Theatre Club's 2003-04 season, a spokesman confirmed.

No director, cast or creative team has been announced. Performances play MTC's Off-Broadway Stage II, Oct. 2-Dec. 21, with an opening set for Oct. 21.

Set in a prison, the play concerns visitations between the grown daughter of a woman who murdered her husband with a kitchen knife years earlier. The daughter, Josie, was 11 at the time, and has not seen her mum, Fay, in 15 years.

The play by Scottish writer Munro premiered in Edinburgh in 2002 in a staging by the Traverse Theatre Company and moved to London's Jerwood Theatre at the Royal Court, January-March 2003.

This is a big season for the not-for-profit MTC. In the fall, it opens the former Biltmore Theatre as its new Broadway home (with Richard Greenberg's The Violet Hour) while maintaining its two Off-Broadway venues at City Center. Neil Simon's new play, Rose's Dilemma, is on the season, and Laura Linney and Liev Schreiber have been announced for the MTC Biltmore revival of Donald Margulies' Sight Unseen.
