Fran Drescher and Eric Roberts Become The Exonerated, July 1-13

By Ernio Hernandez
01 Jul 2003

Fran Drescher ("The Nanny") and Eric Roberts ("The Pope of Greenwich Village") join the cast of Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen's The Exonerated, July 1 for a stint through July 13.

The Exonerated is drawn from the stories of a half-dozen former death row inmates who shared a variety of experiences and feelings with playwrights Blank and Jensen. Most described losing their faith in the justice system, while discovering that it was the resources available to a defense team that made the difference between achieving justice or experiencing a miscarriage of it. Bob Balaban (the actor seen in "A Mighty Wind") directs.

Roberts began his career on the stage appearing in regional productions. The actor, known for his film work in "The Pope of Greenwich Village," "The Coca-Cola Kid" and "Runaway Train," was a replacement player on Broadway in the original run of Burn This. Other stage credits include Mass Appeal, The Glass and Rebel Woman.

Drescher is known for her stint in television's "The Nanny." The actress also appeared in such films as "This Is Spinal Tap," "Jack," "Cadillac Man" and "The Beautician and the Beast."

Past cast members of this run have included Eric Bogosian, Peter Boyle, Connie Britton, Avery Brooks, Gabriel Byrne, Judy Collins, Tim Daly, Kristin Davis, Richard Dreyfuss, Cary Elwes, Mia Farrow, Peter Gallagher, Jeff Goldblum, Sara Gilbert, Tony Goldwyn, Mariska Hargitay, Sarah Jones, Robert Klein, Christine Lahti, Darrell Larson, Chad Lowe, Andrea Martin, Richard Masur, Andrew McCarthy, Esai Morales, Rob Morrow, Joe Morton, Bebe Neuwirth, Harold Perrineau, Amanda Plummer, Aidan Quinn, Lynn Redgrave, Jay O. Sanders, Richard Schiff, Kyra Sedgwick, Ally Sheedy, Brooke Shields, John Spencer, Mary Steenburgen, Lee Tergesen, Marlo Thomas, Kathleen Turner, Robert Vaughn, John Ventimiglia, Ben Vereen, Debra Winger and Montel Williams.

Upcoming casts will include Judy Collins (July 15-20), Susan Saint James (July 22 27), Lainie Kazan (July 29-Aug. 3), Mary Kay Place (Aug. 5-10), Miguel Ferrer (Aug. 12 17), Ben Vereen (Aug. 19-31) and Charlotte Rae (Sept. 9-14). Artists and dates are subject to change.
