New Musical, Owl Creek, Spreads Its Wings in NYC Reading July 7-8

By Kenneth Jones
07 Jul 2003

Owl Creek, a new musical based on the Civil War-era Ambrose Bierce short story, "An Occurence at Owl Creek," will be heard July 7-8 in Manhattan.

Jamibeth Margolis directs the show, which has book, music and lyrics by Ben Cohn and Sean McDaniel. Rehearsals for the Equity-approved reading have been ongoing and culminate in industry readings 7 PM July 7 and 3 PM July 8. David Halstead produces this latest reading. Vadim Feichtner is musical director.

The show is called "a timely and haunting expression of war and passion, betrayal and hope." The musical has been in development for two years and has been seen in several professional readings in New York. This presentation is a fuller staging, with minimal sets and costumes.

The cast includes David Barrus, Pierce Peter Brandt, Bridget Crawford, Robert DuSold, Karen Elliott, Adam Karsten,Russell Arden Koplin, Graham Rowat, Michael Sinclair, Lucy Sorensen, Juliana Stefanov, Christine M. Williamson, Jessica-Snow Wilson and Lee Zarrett.

Orchestrations are by Christopher Jahnke.
