Voice of "South Park" Brings Freedom of Speech to NY Fringe Festival

By Andrew Gans
09 Jul 2003

Eliza Jane Schneider, who has voiced dozens of "South Park" inhabitants, will bring her solo play, Freedom of Speech, to the New York International Fringe Festival next month.

From Aug. 8 to 24 (five performances only), Schneider will portray 30 characters in her self-penned one-woman play based on her experiences traveling the country in an ambulance and asking everyone she met the same question: "What's going on?" Schneider spoke with over 1,000 people to create what has been termed a "Gen X sociopolitical manifesto." Sal Romeo directs the New York premiere.

Eliza Jane Schneider is currently the voice of most of the female characters on the Comedy Central animated hit "South Park." She also voiced numerous characters in "Finding Nemo," and she appeared in front of the camera on CBS's "Beakman's World." On stage, Schneider has been seen in productions of Antigone and Agnes of God.

Freedom of Speech will play The Ground Floor at 312 West 11th Street. Tickets are priced at $15 and are available by calling (212) 279 4488. For more information, visit www.fringeNYC.org.
