Tony Winner Jane Krakowski Flies Out of Broadway's Nine with Banderas, Oct. 5

Jane Krakowski, the Tony Award-winning star of the current Roundabout Theatre Company revival of Nine on Broadway, will depart from her role Oct. 5, the same day her co-star Antonio Banderas leaves, a production spokesperson told Playbill On-Line.

The Roundabout Tony Award-winning revival is currently scheduled to tread the Broadway boards through Jan. 4, 2004.

Krakowski, who is known to television audiences for her turn as the secretary on "Ally McBeal," won the 2003 Tony Award for Featured Actress in a Musical. The actress — who dazzled audiences with her aerial entrance to her "A Call From The Vatican" number — was also recently involved with a workshop of the musical Sweet Charity produced by Barry and Fran Weissler with Clear Channel Entertainment.

The new David Leveaux staging of Nine casts the Spanish-born actor Banderas opposite a cast of women including Chita Rivera, Jane Krakowski, Laura Benanti and Mary Stuart Masterson.

Banderas will leave the staging, Oct. 5 to begin pre-production on the sequel to "The Mask of Zorro." John Stamos is among the actors currently being considered to replace him. Rebecca Luker (The Music Man) was just announced to replace Benanti as Claudia, Sept. 2. Benanti leaves the Roundabout production to begin rehearsals for her next Broadway stint, the upcoming Manhattan Theatre Club staging of Richard Greenberg's The Violet Hour. No other replacements have been confirmed.

Nine began performances at Broadway's Eugene O'Neill Theatre March 21 and opened April 10 for a limited run originally scheduled through June 29.
