Cuban Don Juan in Hell: Who Popped Papi Chulo? Begins at NY Fringe Aug. 13

Who Popped Papi Chulo? or, I'll Have Him With a Side of Salsa, a solo show featuring Dan Domingues, begins performances in the New York International Fringe Festival Aug. 13.

The new work is co-written by Domingues and David Lavine and is directed by Ted Sod, at the Red Room, 85 E. 4th Street.

"The sizzling Cuban TV star Enrique 'Papi' Chulo has been found by the pool at the Miami Beach Howard Johnson, plugged full of lead," according to production notes. "He thinks he's got a one-way ticket through the pearly gates, but call an exorcist – quick! – because a trio of former flames are bent on repossessing his soul. Hell hath no fury like three women scorned!"

Who Popped Papi Chulo? was originally developed at the George Street Playhouse as part of the Little Diva/Gentle Men Project.

Dan Domingues is a recent graduate of the MFA acting program at ART/Harvard, where he worked with Robert Woodruff, Scott Zigler and Anne Bogart.

David Lavine boasts nearly two dozen New York and regional stage productions since 1995; a collection of his short plays is published by Original Works. His play Elephant Titus is also being presented at FringeNYC.

Ted Sod is a writer, director, producer and actor. His regional directing credits include plays at Seattle Rep, George Street Playhouse and Charlotte Repertory Theatre.

"I first met Dan Domingues when he was part of the touring company at George Street Playhouse," Sod told Playbill On-Line. "Then we did Wit there together. I think Dan is a very talented young actor who has amazing comic and mimicry abilities. It's rare that a director gets to laugh at every rehearsal!"

The show closes Aug. 23. All tickets are $15. Fringe shows are presented on scattered dates and times. For information, visit www.FringeNYC.org or call (212) 279-4488.
