"Radio Playbill" Interviews Hugh Jackman at Boy From Oz Rehearsal, Sept. 29-Oct. 11

By Robert Viagas
29 Sep 2003

"Radio Playbill" heads inside the rehearsal hall Sept. 29 to Oct. 11, where Hugh Jackman is cooking up the Broadway premiere of the musical The Boy From Oz. Host Robert Viagas talks to him, to the creative team, and to his co-stars, including the actress who has the job of playing Allen’s onetime wife, Liza Minnelli. Along the way, "Radio Playbill" will play lots of music from the show.

Then, test your knowledge in the weekly Playbill Quiz.

"Radio Playbill," a weekly news and entertainment magazine show of theatrical interviews, features and music, is broadcast multiple times each week on Sirius Satellite Radio's A&E, Stream 137.

A new 30-minute show debuts each Monday, with rebroadcasts throughout the following two weeks. Here is the schedule (all times are Eastern): New show Monday Sept. 29 at 1 PM, Wednesday Oct. 1 at 6 PM, Friday Oct. 3 at 5 AM, Saturday Oct. 4 at 7 AM, and Sunday Oct. 5 at 4:30 PM. Rebroadcasts continue following the ensuing week’s shows: Monday Oct. 6 at 1:30 PM, Wednesday Oct. 8 at 6:30 PM, Friday Oct. 10 at 5:30 AM, Saturday Oct. 11 at 7:30 AM.

All the excitement and glamour of the American theatre scene comes across in "Radio Playbill," the first radio project from the creators of Broadway's distinctive programs, and Playbill On-Line, the home of theatre on the internet. The program reflects Playbill's unique access and knowledge of the world of Broadway, broadcasting from Sirius' midtown Manhattan studios overlooking Times Square.

Previous guests on "Radio Playbill" have included Brian Stokes Mitchell, Chita Rivera, Michael John LaChiusa, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Antonio Banderas, Jerry Herman, Barbara Cook, William Finn, Michael Crawford, Jason Robert Brown, Rebecca Luker, Liz Callaway, Lea Salonga, Cy Coleman, Stephen Flaherty, Sherie Rene Scott, Jeanine Tesori, Charles Strouse, Cherry Jones, Baz Luhrman, Seth Rudetsky, Maury Yeston, Gerard Alessandrini and many more. The program has offered the first (and sometimes only) chance to hear songs from Hairspray, Avenue Q, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Urban Cowboy, The Fabulist, Marty, Dance of the Vampires and revivals of Little Shop of Horrors, Nine and Man of La Mancha, among many more shows.

You can now listen to some of the best of these with RealPlayer in the "Radio Playbill" archives on Playbill On-Line.

And don't miss Playbill's theatre news headlines, being broadcast throughout the day, seven days a week on Sirius Satellite Radio's "Broadway's Best," Stream 77. This link now takes you directly to the page that lets you listen to the music channel and the news. Click the "listen now" icon.

Host for both the news and the magazine show is Robert Viagas, founding editor of Playbill On-Line and Theatre.com, author of several books on theatre, including "On the Line: The Creation of A Chorus Line" and "The Amazing Story of The Fantasticks," and editor of Louis Botto’s updated book, "At This Theatre."
