Following an acclaimed eight-week run of A. R. Gurney's Love Letters with a rotating cast of actors, The Storefront will present an encore performance of the two-character play Oct. 27.

Cabaret veteran Mary Cleere Haran and theatre and film critic Rex Reed will take on the roles of, respectively, Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III in the play, which traces the lifelong correspondence between the two friends. Showtime at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre is 7 PM.

Love Letters premiered at Connecticut's Long Wharf Theatre in 1989 with Joanna Gleason and John Rubenstein and has been performed all around the world. Laura Linney and Steven Weber starred in a television version of the play. This summer's Duplex engagement featured the talents of Matt Bogart, Phil Geoffrey Bond, Charles Busch, Kristy Cates, Jim Dale, Jerry Dixon, Daisy Eagan, Alison Fraser, Randy Graff, Amanda Green, Leslie Kritzer, Andrew Lippa, Karen Mason, Tonya Pinkins and Lonny Price.

Described by The New York Times as "the most literature chanteuse of her generation," Mary Cleere Haran has performed in some of the top cabaret venues around the country as well as in the original Broadway cast of The 1940's Radio Hour and the Off-Broadway companies of The Heebie Jeebies and Hollywood Opera. Her numerous recordings include "There's a Small Hotel: Live at the Algonquin," "This Heart of Mine: Classic Movie Songs of the 40s," "This Funny World: Lyrics by Hart" and "Pennies From Heaven."

A.R. Gurney's plays include The Dining Room, The Cocktail Party, The Perfect Party, Another Antigone, A Cheever Evening, Sylvia, Ancestral Voices and Buffalo Gal. He is the recipient of a Drama Desk Award, a Rockefeller Award and two Lucille Lortel Awards.

Tickets for Love Letters are priced at $18 plus a two-drink minimum; call (212) 255-5438 for reservations. The Duplex Cabaret Theatre is located at 61 Christopher Street.
