MSG A Christmas Carol Holds Open Auditions for Tiny Tim and Other Child Roles, Oct. 13

By Ernio Hernandez
10 Oct 2003

Can you say "God bless us, everyone!"?

Radio City Entertainment is holding open auditions for a new Tiny Tim and other child roles for the annual production of A Christmas Carol at the Theater at Madison Square Garden.

The open call for kids (ages 7 and up) of all ethnicities with "lovely singing voices" will be held at The Club Bar and Grill at Madison Square Garden, located at Seventh Avenue and 32nd Street (above Penn Station) Oct. 13 at 10 AM.

Children should be prepared to sing "Silent Night." For more information and to RSVP, call the Tiny Tim hotline at (212) 465-6773. No prior acting or musical experience is required.

Barnum Tony Award winner Jim Dale will utter the traditional "Bah, humbug!" this year as Ebenezer Scrooge in the staging, Nov. 28-Dec. 27. This will be the final staging of the annual show at the 5,000 seat house in New York City as the producers wished to end the tradition on a high note, according to a production spokesperson.

The musical version of A Christmas Carol, based on the Charles Dickens classic, was created and directed by the late Mike Ockrent (Crazy For You, Me and My Girl). His widow, multi-Tony Award winner Susan Stroman (The Producers, Contact) oversees the production and choreographs. The adaptation features songs by composer Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors) and lyricist Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, Once on This Island).

Dale created the title role in Barnum earning him the 1980 Tony Award. He also earned nominations for his turns in Joe Egg and Candide. Other credits include Scapino, Me and My Girl and most recently Comedians. Dale is also "The Voice of Harry Potter," as he provided voice for the audio recordings of all five "Harry Potter" books—which earned him a 2001 Grammy Award for "Best Children's Audio Book" and a Guinness World Record having created and recorded 134 voices for "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."
