Frank Langella will star opposite Ray Liotta in the new Stephen Belber play Match.

Variety reports that the Tony-winning actor will play a Juilliard dance teacher in the new play, which concerns a police officer trying to uncover a secret of his past. As previously announced, the Araca Group will produce the play at one of the Shubert theatres this spring. Nicholas Martin will direct.

Belber's Match is described thusly: "A husband and wife arrive on the doorstep of a once renowned dancer to interview him about his past. By night's end what they have learned will change them all forever." The playwright's other titles include Tape; A Small, Melodramatic Story; The Death of Frank; and The Transparency of Val.

Frank Langella made his Broadway debut in Seascape and has also appeared on Broadway in Passion, Amadeus, The Father, Hurlyburly, Present Laughter and Design for Living. Most recently on Broadway in Fortune's Fool, Langella is the recipient of two Tony Awards, for Fool and Seascape. Also a star of feature film, his movie credits boast "Dracula," "Lolita," "The Ninth Gate," "Small Soldiers," "Dave," "Diary of a Mad Housewife" and "The Twelve Chairs."

Langella had been announced to star opposite Isabella Rossellini in the world premiere of Terrence McNally's The Stendhal Syndrome at Primary Stages in February 2004. The industry paper reports that his involvement in Match will make him unavailable for the McNally production.
