Mamma Mia! Star Offers Evening of New Composers Dec. 1

Michael Winther, who currently co-stars in the Broadway company of Mamma Mia!, will go it solo Dec. 1 at the King Kong Room.

Winther, who plays Harry Bright in the hit musical at the Winter Garden Theatre, will offer an evening of tunes from the new generation of composers and lyricists. Entitled Recent Acquisitions, the concert will feature musical direction and piano accompaniment by Caroline or Change's Kimberly Grigsby. Concertgoers can expect to hear works by Mark Campbell, Debra Barsha, Lance Horne, Steve Marzullo, Michael Torke and Joe Thalken. The evening will also feature a new song by Jeff Blumenkrantz, a tune from Adam Guettel's The Light in the Piazza as well as special guest star Natalie Moore.

On Broadway, Michael Winther has appeared in 1776, The Crucible, Artist Descending a Staircase and Damn Yankees, while his Off-Broadway credits include Hapgood, Berlin to Broadway, Forever Plaid, Predator's Ball and the original cast of Tony 'n' Tina's Wedding. Winther has worked at regional theatres throughout the country, and his film and TV credits include "Independence Day," "Universal Soldier," "Law & Order," "Mary & Rhoda," "NY News," "Rocket Power" and "Wild Thornberrys."

There is a $20 cover charge and a $15 food-drink minimum for the Dec. 1 concert; show time is 7 PM. The King Kong Room is located within the Supper Club at 240 West 47th Street. Call (212) 921-1904 for reservations.
