Soundtrack for Kushner's Angels in America HBO Film Released Dec. 2

| photo by © 2003 Home Box Office, Inc. | Nonesuch Records will release music featured in the HBO Films screen adaptation of Tony Kushner's Angels in America, Dec. 2. The soundtrack features the music of composer Thomas Newman.
The album also includes three existing tracks performed by Duke Ellington, George Lewis and His Ragtime Band and Zella Jackson-Price.
The "Angels in America" star-studded cast features Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson, Mary-Louise Parker, original Broadway star Jeffrey Wright, Justin Kirk, Ben Shenkman, Patrick Wilson, James Cromwell, Michael Gambon and Simon Callow. Streep, Thompson, Wright and Kirk perform multiple roles.
Kushner's stage works, Angels in America: Millennium Approaches and Angels in America: Perestroika won the Best Play Tony Awards in 1993 and 1994, respectively. The first half of the theatrical epic which centered on AIDS, religion, family, sexuality, spirituality and politics, was also won the Pulitzer Prize in Drama.
Newman has composed the scores for such films as "American Beauty," "The Player," "Road to Perdition," "Little Women," "The Shawshank Redemption" and most recently "Finding Nemo." The composer has worked with HBO in the past as he won a Emmy Award for his title theme for the drama "Six Feet Under."

Millennium Approaches — which is divided into three chapters "Bad News," "In Vitro" and "The Messenger" — will debut on HBO Dec. 7 at 8 PM (ET). Perestroika — also segmented into "Stop Moving," "Beyond Nelly" and "Heaven, I'm in Heaven" — will first air Dec. 14 at 8 PM (ET.)
