Barrett Foa will join the cast of Avenue Q this month.

According to the actor's official website, Foa will join the cast of the new hit musical at the Golden Theatre Dec. 26 and sub for the vacationing John Tartaglia, Jan. 10-17, 2004. Foa will be featured in the musical's ensemble and understudy the roles of Princeton and Rod.

Barrett Foa, who made his Broadway debut in Mamma Mia!, recently took part in the all-star Children of Eden benefit concert. His other theatrical credits include Godspell and Just So. Foa is a graduate of the University of Michigan's Musical Theatre Department.

Avenue Q sends up popular children's television shows such as "Sesame Street" and "The Electric Company," while serving up a bounty of pop culture references and solving the mystery of the whereabouts of former "Diff'rent Strokes" child star Gary Coleman. The production bears the warning: "Full puppet nudity, not suitable for children."

The new musical officially opened on Broadway July 31 following previews from July 11. The staging came off a successful run at Off Broadway's Vineyard Theatre, where it sold out and garnered the 2003 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical.
