Bracco Bows Out of Baltimore Graduate Dates, But Linda Gray Steps In, Jan. 6-18

By Kenneth Jones
06 Jan 2004

Due to an unexpected family emergency, Lorraine Bracco will miss two weeks of performances of the national tour of The Graduate at the Morris A. Mechanic Theatre in Baltimore, Jan. 6-18, but audiences can expect another star in the pumps of voracious Mrs. Robinson: Linda Gray.

Bracco is expected to return to the company in Raleigh, NC (Memorial Auditorium), Jan. 20-25. She will continue in Boston (Colonial Theatre), Jan. 27-Feb. 8; Ft. Myers, FL (Barbara Mann Performing Arts Hall), Feb. 11-15; Birmingham, AL (BJCC Concert Hall), Feb. 17-22; and Chicago (Shubert Theatre), Feb. 24-March 14.

Gray, who has played the legendary seductress Mrs. Robinson on Broadway, in London, and in the U.S. national tour in fall and winter 2003, replaces Bracco during her absence.

Gray might be best known for playing Sue Ellen in TV's "Dallas," for which she was Emmy Award nominated.

Taking on the role of Benjamin Braddock is Jonathan C. Kaplan. Nominated for a 1992 Tony Award, and a recipient of the Theatre World Award for the role of Jason in Falsettos, he returned to the Broadway stage in 1998 opposite Natalie Portman in The Diary of Anne Frank. His off-Broadway credits include The Loman Family Picnic and Rags; film credits include "Life with Mikey" and "A Kid in the Arabian Nights." He completed his B.A. at Stanford University in June 2003.

Devon Sorvari plays Mrs. Robinson's daughter Elaine. She appeared in stage productions in New York City, including Ah, Wilderness! (Lincoln Center), The Bronte Cycle and The Exploding Hotel (Lincoln Center Director's Lab), As You Like It (Expanded Arts), Pericles (Mint Theatre) and Macbeth (Tribeca Lab).

The cast includes Winslow Corbett (Assistant Desk Clerk), Nathan Corddry (Bellhop/Man in Bar), Tracy Griswold (Bartender/Priest/Motel Manager), William Hill (Mr. Braddock), Kate Levy (Stripper), Corinna May (Mrs. Braddock), Dennis Parlato (Mr. Robinson) and John Leonard Thompson (Hotel Clerk/Bar Patron/Psychic). Denise Cormier and Brian Russell are the general understudies.

The Graduate is directed by Peter Lawrence, adapted by Terry Johnson, from the novel by Charles Webb and the screenplay by Calder Willingham and Buck Henry, and produced by Jon B. Platt.
