PHOTO CALL: Urinetown Brings Down the House

The Tony Award-winning musical comedy, Urinetown, closed Jan. 18, 2004, after 965 performances and 25 previews at the Henry Miller Theatre.

The Cinderella-storied show that grew from a Fringe Festival staging to a full production on Broadway closed due to the planned erection of a skyscraper, which will be built at the Avenue of the Americas between 42nd and 43rd Streets.

The show is produced by The Araca Group and Dodger Theatricals, in association with TheaterDreams Inc., and Lauren Mitchell.

Urinetown won three 2002 Tony Awards, including Best Director of a Musical (John Rando), Best Book of a Musical (Greg Kotis) and Best Original Score (Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis).

Urinetown inhabitants: (L-R) Composer Mark Hollman, Carolee Carmello, choreographer John Carrafa; Spencer Kayden; director John Rando and Jeff McCarthy.
