Patrick Wilson Withdraws from Kennedy Center Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

By Andrew Gans
19 Mar 2004

Patrick Wilson, who recently scored raves and a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in HBO's "Angels in America," has withdrawn from the Kennedy Center's upcoming production of Cat On a Hot Tin Roof.

A spokesperson for the Kennedy Center confirmed that Wilson will no longer be part of the cast of the Tennessee Williams play. Wilson accepted a movie offer, which conflicted with the run of the show, June 1-20 at the Eisenhower Theatre. No replacement has been announced.

Directed by Mark Lamos, the cast of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof includes Mary Stuart Masterson as Maggie, Dana Ivey as Big Mama, George Grizzard as Big Daddy, T. Scott Cunningham as Gooper, Brian Reddy as Dr. Baugh and Side Show Tony nominee Emily Skinner as Sister Woman.

Patrick Wilson, who will play Joe Gillis in a reading of the "Sunset Boulevard" screenplay April 4 in Los Angeles, received Tony nominations for his work in Oklahoma! and The Full Monty. The young actor will soon be seen in the film of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera as well as the Disney historical drama "The Alamo."

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is located at 2700 F. Street, NW in Washington, D.C. Tickets for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof — part of the “Tennessee Williams Explored” celebration — are now on sale.
