Sam Waterston to Star in Stoppard's Travesties at Long Wharf in 2005

Sam Waterston, who is set for the Public Theater's Much Ado About Nothing this summer, will also return to the stage for the Long Wharf's staging of Travesties in the 2004-2005 season.
The New Haven, CT, theatre confirmed the "Law & Order" star's casting for the Tom Stoppard work set to run in May 2005 under the direction of Gregory Boyd.
The drama, set in 1974 (and 1917 in flashback) in Zurich, Switzerland, is filled with real-life characters including writer James Joyce, artist Tristan Tzara and revolutionary Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov (Lenin) and how their lives intersected with the show's narrator, British consul official Henry Wilfred Carr.
The Royal Shakespeare Company first premiered the play at London's Aldwych Theatre in June of 1974. The work hopped the pond to Broadway in 1975 starring John Wood, James Booth and Tim Curry. Both runs were directed by Peter Wood.
Waterston's Broadway credits include Abe Lincoln in Illinois, A Walk in the Woods, Benefactors, Lunch Hour, Hamlet, A Doll's House, Much Ado About Nothing, The Trial of the Catonsville Nine, Hay Fever, Indians, Halfway Up the Tree and Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mama's Hung Up in the Closet and I'm Feeling So Sad. His film credits include "Crimes and Misdemeanors," "Hannah and Her Sisters," "The Great Gatsby" and "Serial Mom."
The regional company's upcoming 40th anniversary is also expected to include Craig Lucas' The Singing Forest and Eugene O'Neill's A Moon for the Misbegotten. Other possibilities include Molière's The Misanthrope and William Shakespeare's Two Gentlemen of Verona.
