Atlantic Theater Has David Mamet, Woody Allen, Chekhov, Donaghy, Howe and Ionesco in 2004-05

New plays by David Mamet and Woody Allen will be staged by Off-Broadway's Atlantic Theater Company in 2004-05, the not-for-profit announced.

Allen will direct the world premiere of his A Secondhand Memory, the details of which aren't known, in November-December.

In wintertime, Mamet's Dr. Faustus will get its New York premiere. His take on the Faust tale previously played the Magic Theater in San Francisco. Atlantic artistic director Neil Pepe will direct, February-March 2005.

Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard (in a translation by Tom Donaghy) will feature Mary Steenburgen. Scott Zigler directs in May-June 2005.

Carl Forsman (The Journals of Mihail Sebastian) directs two one-acts by Eugene Ionesco, The Lesson and The Bald Soprano, in versions by Tina Howe. That pair of works was bumped from the current season to September-October 2004.

Howard Korder's Sea of Tranquility is currently on the boards of the company's home in Manhattan's Chelsea district.

Next up at the space is a guest production of The Two and Only, an exploration of the art of ventriloquism, by Jay Johnson (of TV's "Soap").
