Come On Up! Game Show Makes Its Toronto Debut June 24-July 25

By Kenneth Jones
15 Apr 2004

Game Show, the interactive theatrical comedy seen Off-Broadway, will make its Toronto debut June 24-July 25 at the Jane Mallett Theatre in the St. Lawrence Center for the Arts.

Michael Rubinoff in association with Jeffrey Finn Productions presents the staging, set during a "live broadcast" of a fictional, long running TV game show. The comedy "places the theatre audience in the role of the TV studio audience. Volunteers are selected from the audience to play the trivia-based game and win actual prizes. In addition to watching and playing during the 'broadcast' – where anything can and does happen – the audience also witnesses all the backstage, back-stabbing antics behind the scenes during the 'commercial breaks.'"

The entire Jane Mallett Theatre will be turned into the television studio of the fictional game show, including applause signs, contestant podiums and operational television cameras mounted on either side of the audience with screens for "broadcast."

Game Show is written by Jeffrey Finn and Bob Walton and is based on an idea by Finn. Walton will direct the Toronto premiere. Casting of the all-Canadian seven member company will take place April 20-22 in Toronto.

"People love to participate," said original producer and co author Jeffrey Finn, in a statement. "There are countless people watching game shows who say, 'I know the answers to those trivia questions. I can win on that show!' Well now you can have your chance to prove you are a first-rate trivia buff."

Producer Michael Rubinoff stated, "Every performance is different as prizes and trivia questions will always change. This is the perfect show for families and people of all ages who are looking for a theatrical experience this summer that is fun, exciting and sensibly priced."

Performances play Tuesday-Sunday. For information, call (416) 366-7723 or (800) 708-6754 or visit www.stlc.com. The official site is www.gameshowtheplay.ca.
