Alicia Witt Assesses The Shape of Things, Opening in London May 17

By James Inverne
17 May 2004

With fellow American screen stars Julia Stiles and Aaron Eckhart down the road in Oleanna at the Garrick, and Alyson Hannigan and Luke Perry round the corner at the Haymarket in When Harry Met Sally, Alicia Witt is set to join them at the New Ambassadors. That’s the venue for the London revival of Neil LaBute’s The Shape of Things, to open May 17.

Witt, who recently wrapped filming opposite Kevin Costner and Joan Allen in the movie “The Upside of Anger,” attracted attention for her cinematic turns in "Vanilla Sky" and "Mr. Holland’s Opus" — and became a recognizable face across America for her role as Zoey in the CBS series “Cybill.”

After out-of-town tryouts, the show is booking at the New Ambassadors until July 3. The play focuses on the relationship between art student Evelyn and her boyfriend Adam, whom she sets out to change while their friends Philip and Jenny look on. It was originally produced in 2001 at London’s Almeida with a cast including Rachel Weisz and Paul Rudd, who resumed their roles for the 2003 film version.

The 2004 cast will also include three young Brit actors, James Murray, Sienna Guillory and Enzo Cilenti. Julian Webber will direct the new production. Designs will be by Simon Higlett, with Kenny Wax producing.
