Isn't It Romance? Mamet's New Play Will Bow at Atlantic in 2005, Replacing Dr. Faustus

By Kenneth Jones
28 May 2004

Atlantic Theater Company, the Off-Broadway troupe co-founded by David Mamet, will stage the world premiere of Mamet's Romance in February 2005.

Artistic director Neil Pepe is expected to direct. The play's details have not been fully revealed, but the work is being billed as "a hilarious world premiere comedy set in modern day and dealing with issues ranging from our current legal system, infidelity, the Middle East and world peace."

Mamet's plays include Glengarry Glen Ross, Edmond, Speed-the-Plow, Sexual Perversity in Chicago, American Buffalo and the recent Boston Marriage.

Romance replaces Mamet's Dr. Faustus on the 2004-05 slate, which also features the playwrights Woody Allen, Anton Chekhov, Tom Donaghy, Tina Howe and Eugene Ionesco. The New York Times reported Dr. Faustus will play a future season.
