Ellen Greene Heads into Recording Studio June 15

| photo by Peter Cunningham | Ellen Greene, who originated the role of Audrey in the Off-Broadway and subsequent film of Little Shop of Horrors, heads into the recording studio June 15.
Greene, who is currently appearing in the Malibu Stage Company's mounting of Side Man, will begin recording her long-awaited solo album under the guidance of engineer Bernie Kirsh, who has worked with Chick Corea and Chaka Khan.
Among the songs Greene will record are Jane Siberry's "Love Is Everything," Queen's "You Take My Breath Away" and "Too Much Love Will Kill You," Tom Waits' "Rainbow Sleeves," Peter Allen's "Pretty Pretty" and "Continental American," Sarah McLachlan's "I Love You" and "I Do What I Have to Do," Nikka Costa's "Nothing," Paula Cole's "Throwing Stones" and Tori Amos' "Winter." She will also record the song "When Love Is Gone," penned by her musical director and husband, Christian Klikovits.
Ellen Greene began her career as a nightclub singer, performing in the now closed New York cabaret Reno Sweeney. At age 21, Joseph Papp took her under his wing and cast her in productions of Boom Boom Room and The Threepenny Opera. Greene earned a Tony nomination for her work in the latter, but it was her role as Audrey in both the original stage and film productions of Little Shop of Horrors that brought her national attention.
Greene is also scheduled to perform in concert in Provincetown, Aug. 19-31.
