George Hearn to Be the Wizard in Broadway's Wicked

Tony Award winner George Hearn will become the Wizard of Oz in the hit musical Wicked beginning July 20. A spokesperson for the musical confirmed that Hearn will replace Joel Grey.
Grey has been out of the show since mid-June. He is on an extended leave of absence. Sean McCourt has been playing the role since Grey's departure.
July 20 will also mark the debut of two new Wicked cast members, Jennifer Laura Thompson as Glinda and Joey McIntyre as Fiyero.
George Hearn won Tony Awards for his performances in La Cage aux Folles and Sunset Boulevard and was also nominated for his work in Watch on the Rhine, A Doll's Life and Putting It Together. Hearn's other Broadway credits include Meet Me in St. Louis; Ghetto; Ah, Wilderness!; Whodunnit; I Remember Mama; Sweeney Todd: An Almost Perfect Person; Hamlet; The Changing Room; 1776; and A Time for Singing.
