Liev Schreiber to Be Roma in Broadway Glengarry

Liev Schreiber will return to Broadway to play Richard Roma in Glengarry Glen Ross, Variety reported.

Alan Alda and Frederick Weller are in talks, meanwhile, to play Shelley Levine and John Williamson.

Producing are Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel.

The ubiquitous Joe Mantello (Take Me Out, Wicked, Assassins), will direct. Spring 2005 is the projected launch time.

Schreiber was to have starred in the Manhattan Theatre Club staging of Sight Unseen, but bowed out. He most recently acted on stage in Henry V in Central Park.

Alda last appeared on the New York stage in QED at Lincoln Center Theatre. His Broadway credits include Art and Jake's Women, as well as the musical The Apple Tree.

Weller has appeared in such Broadway and Off-Broadway offerings as Take Me Out, Curtains, The Shape of Things and The Country Club.

The original Broadway production played less than a year at the Golden Theatre, March 1984 to February 1985, but was embraced by critics. Mamet won the 1984 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the script, about the lengths men will hustle for success in a Chicago real estate office. Gregory Mosher directed a cast that included Joe Mantegna (who snagged the Tony Award that year for Best Featured Actor), Mike Nussbaum, Robert Prosky, Lane Smith, James Tolkan, Jack Wallace and J. T. Walsh. The play was seen in London before New York.
