Songs Announced for Ellen Greene's Debut Solo Recording

By Andrew Gans
19 Jul 2004

The track listing has been announced for "In His Eyes," the solo debut recording of Ellen Greene and musical director/pianist Christian Klikovits.

The 14-track recording will be released on the Rainbo Records label; release date is still pending.

In a recent mailing, singer-actress Greene had this to say about the recording: "Well, we did it. The album is done, and it's beautiful. Christian [Klikovits] arranged and produced the album, and his work is stunning. We couldn't have done it without Bernie Kirsh who engineered and mixed it, Scott Gordon & Doug Tyo (who assisted), and Steve Hall who mastered it. Everyone was so wonderful to us and we so appreciate it. We did the piano and vocal tracks over two-and-a-half days of 12 hrs. each — one-half day for strings, horn, and background vocals — that day went 13 hours (three days total — ouch!). Then Christian worked for the next three days in his studio, around the clock — sweetening, adding organ, synth, and additional magic. Next, we spent two days — 13 hours the first day, then 22 hours the next — mixing the album. A few hours later we went to have it mastered. I'm exhausted again just telling you . . . even my hair hurts. Now it's in the hands of Rainbo Records. We are proud of the work and we hope you all will like it."

The complete track listing for "In His Eyes" follows:
"I Love You" (S. McLachlan)
"The Man with the Child in His Eyes" (K. Bush)
"Pretty Pretty" (H. Hackady, P. Allen)
"Only Women Bleed" (A. Cooper, R. Wagner)
"Ready for Love" (B. Miller, I. Simpson)
"Nothing Blues" (C. Brown, S. Clarke, B. Costa, D. Humperies)
"Throwing Stones" (P. Cole)
"Too Much Love Will Kill You" (F. Musker, E. Lamers, B. May) "Winter" (T. Amos)
"When Love Is Gone" (Ch. Klikovits)
"You Take My Breath Away" (F. Mercury)
"Love Is Everything" (J. Siberry)
"Rainbow Sleeves" (T. Waits)
Bonus track: "Pirate Jenny" (B. Brecht, K. Weill, R. Mannheim, J. Willett)

Ellen Greene began her career as a nightclub singer, performing in the now closed New York cabaret Reno Sweeney. At age 21, Joseph Papp took her under his wing and cast her in productions of Boom Boom Room and The Threepenny Opera. Greene earned a Tony nomination for her work in the latter, but it was her role as Audrey in both the original stage and film productions of Little Shop of Horrors that brought her national attention.
