Carol Kane and Jason Kravits Join Broadway's Sly Fox; Pinchot and York Move Up

Carol Kane

More cast additions, and a bit of actors' musical chairs, have been announced for the Broadway production of Sly Fox.

Bronson Pinchot, now playing Lawyer Craven, will take over the role of Simon Able, originated by Eric Stoltz. Jason Kravits ("The Stepford Wives") will take Pinchot's place as Craven.

Meanwhile, Rachel York, the current Miss Fancy, will jumps to the role of Mrs. Truckle, and Carol Kane will become the new Miss Fancy. All cast changes take place on Aug. 17.

As previously reported, Richard Kind, recently of Bounce, will replace Richard Dreyfuss as the gleefully conniving Foxwell J. Sly in the Broadway production of the Larry Gelbart comedy Sly Fox.

Kind will assume the role during the work week beginning Aug. 17. Also joining the cast that week will be Richard Libertini, who will succeed Rene Auberjonois as Jethro Crouch.

Another cast change, happening on Aug. 3, involves the addition of Larry Storch, who will replace Peter Scolari as the Police Chief. Scolari is leaving the show to become Hairspray's new Wilbur Turnblad.

The production officially opened on April Fool's Day, after previews from March 13, and a Boston tryout Feb. 20-March 7.

The show is directed by Fortune's Fool's Arthur Penn, who also staged the original 1976 Broadway premiere. Along for the reunion is actor Bob Dishy, who plays Abner Truckle, the same part he was Tony-nominated for 28 years ago.

The story mirrors that of Ben Jonson's Volpone, a British classic which is seldom produced in the U.S. In it, a miserly rich man pretends to take to his deathbed with the idea of gleefully tricking out of their fortunes every vulture and opportunist who is trying to become his heir.
