| David Soul as Jerry Springer |
David Soul has taken on the title role in Jerry Springer - The Opera, after the departure of Michael Brandon. Soul, best known for his role on TV's "Starsky and Hutch," has been playing the part of Springer at London's Cambridge Theatre since July 12.
Jerry Springer - The Opera began its life as a "scratch night" event with composer-creator Richard Thomas in 2001, then went through numerous workshops before landing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2002. The opera then transferred to a run at the National Theatre and its tremendous success prompted a transfer to a commercial run in October 2003. The work plans to open on Broadway, after a San Francisco tryout, in October 2005.
