Larry Storch Joins Cast of Broadway's Sly Fox on Aug. 3

Larry Storch

In the first of a host of August cast changes to occur in the Broadway production of Larry Gelbart's Sly Fox, Larry Storch will replace Peter Scolari as the Police Chief Aug. 3.

Scolari left the show Aug. 1 to become Hairspray's new Wilbur Turnblad.

Storch is a fairly regular visitor to Broadway and Off-Broadway. Most recently, he was a replacement cast member in the Off-Broadway comedy, Things You Shouldn't Say Past Midnight. Prior to that, he was one of the Chief Sitting Bulls in the Bernadette Peters revival of Annie Get Your Gun. Perhaps his most famous recent stage role was the featured part he had in the long-running 1990s Off-Broadway comedy, Breaking Legs. Storch is, of course, best known as Corporal Agarn on TV's "F Troop."

On Aug. 17, Sly Fox will undergo several more cast changes. Richard Kind, recently of Bounce, will replace Richard Dreyfuss as the conniving Foxwell J. Sly. Bronson Pinchot, now playing Lawyer Craven, will take over the role of Simon Able, originated by Eric Stoltz. Jason Kravits ("The Stepford Wives") will take Pinchot's place as Craven. Meanwhile, Rachel York, the current Miss Fancy, will jump to the role of Mrs. Truckle, and Carol Kane will become the new Miss Fancy. Also joining the cast that week will be Richard Libertini, who will succeed Rene Auberjonois as Jethro Crouch.

The production officially opened on April Fool's Day, after previews from March 13, and a Boston tryout Feb. 20-March 7.

The story mirrors that of Ben Jonson's Volpone, a British classic which is seldom produced in the U.S. In it, a miserly rich man pretends to take to his deathbed with the idea of gleefully tricking out of their fortunes every vulture and opportunist who is trying to become his heir.
