Bigfoot, Dog, Dixie, Mormon and Bicycle Men Fare Well as FringeNYC Bids Farewell, Aug. 29

Shows like Debbie Does Dallas, Matt & Ben and, of course, Urinetown all had their meager beginnings at the New York International Fringe Festival. This year's crop of over 200 new shows ends Aug. 29, but a few also show signs of a future beyond the Fringe.

The FringeNYC's first completely sold-out show Believe in Me… A Bigfoot Musical was joined in capacity crowd success by The First Step, Live! With Pascale & Chantal, Martha & Me: A Musical and Geek Love. Other best-selling shows include Granola! The Musical, Host & Guest and The Bicycle Men.

Dog Sees God and Dixie's Tupperware Party have already extended past the Fringe closing. Susan Lovell's staging of Bert V. Royal's Dog Sees God will continue its run at the Soho Playhouse through Sept. 12. Thomas Caruso's staging of Kris Andersson's Dixie's Tupperware Party will move to Fez for a two-week limited engagement in late November.

Commercial producers have also descended upon the downtown shows. Talks have begun with the creators of Believe in Me, Confessions of a Mormon Boy, Dog Sees God and The Bicycle Men for future productions.

Pending stagings aside, the Present Company will acknowledge this year's best presentations themselves at the FringeNYC Overall Excellence Awards. The honors will be presented at a closing party Aug. 29 at BBar. The festivities, at 40 East 4th Street, will take place from 9PM-1AM and is free and open to the public.

The festival played Aug. 13-29 in numerous New York City venues. For $15 tickets to the Fringe Festival and more information, call (212) 279-4488 or visit the website at www.FringeNYC.org.
