North Shore Music Theatre's 2005 Season to Include Millie, Fame, Cinderella and Monty

By Andrew Gans
10 Sep 2004

Several new and classic musicals will be part of the 2005 season at the North Shore Music Theatre, the acclaimed regional theatre located in Beverly, Massachusetts.

The 2005 season will kick off in April 2005 with the Tony-winning Thoroughly Modern Millie. Barry Ivan will direct the Jeanine Tesori-Dick Scanlan-Richard Morris musical that made a Broadway star out of Sutton Foster. Millie will play April 26-May 15. The staging represents the first licensed, resident-produced production of the musical that has been seen on Broadway, in London and on tour.

Fame: The Musical, which recently enjoyed a run at Off-Broadway's Little Shubert Theatre, will head to the North Shore May 31-June 19. Based on the film and subsequent TV series set at New York's High School for the Performing Arts, Fame is scheduled to run July 5-24 in a production helmed by Greg Ganakis.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's take on Cinderella's rags-to-riches story will follow Fame, playing July 5-24. The production will feature "dazzling special effects" and is based on the 1957 television special starring Julie Andrews in the title role.

A yet-to-be-announced musical theatre premiere will play the North Shore Aug. 23-Sept. 11 and will be followed the classic Lerner and Loewe musical Camelot. Directed by Jack Hofsiss, North Shore theatregoers will enjoy such tunes as "If Ever I Would Leave You," "I Loved You Once in Silence" and "Camelot" from Sept. 20 to Oct. 9.

The Tony-nominated musical The Full Monty, based on the film of the same name, will conclude the North Shore season. With a score by David Yazbek and a book by Terrence McNally, Monty is scheduled to run Oct. 25-Nov. 13 in a production helmed by Barry Ivan.

About the upcoming season North Shore artistic director and executive producer Jon Kimbell said in a statement, "When choosing the musicals for this very special year, I took many things into consideration including artistic significance, balance, availability, and actor and director interest. I also wanted to see what our patrons were excited about and in an audience survey, these titles came out on top. As a result, I believe the 2005 season is a perfect way to celebrate our first 50 years and our future."

The North Shore Music Theatre is located at 62 Dunham Road in Beverly, MA. For subscription pricing and information, log onto www.nsmt.org or call (978) 232-7200. Single tickets will go on sale in the spring.
