The 2003-2004 Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Awards were announced Sept. 12 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

The HBO television production of Tony Kushner's Angels in America — directed by Mike Nichols — won four Emmys, including Outstanding Single-Camera Sound Mixing for a Miniseries or a Movie; Outstanding Casting for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special; Outstanding Makeup for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special (Non-Prosthetic); and Outstanding Art Direction for a Miniseries or Movie.

Elaine Stritch: At Liberty, the HBO airing of the veteran actress' Tony-winning one-woman show, also nabbed an Emmy for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special. Another winner of interest to theatre fans is actress Laura Linney, who was recently back on The Great White Way in the Broadway bow of Sight Unseen. Linney won an Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance as Charlotte on NBC's "Frasier." And, the Showtime adaptation of "The Lion in Winter" won a Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Costumes for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special.

Emmys in 27 other categories will be presented Sept. 19, 2004, during the 2004 Primetime Emmy Awards. ABC Network will broadcast the event live, beginning at 8 PM ET.
