Gypsy Star Julie Halston Replaces Nora Dunn in Off-Broadway's White Chocolate

Recent Gypsy funny girl Julie Halston has replaced former "Saturday Night Live" star Nora Dunn in the upcoming world premiere of William Hamilton's play White Chocolate.

"Nora Dunn is one of our most brilliant actress-comediennes. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, I came to feel that she was not suited to the role of Vivian in White Chocolate," said director David Schweizer in a statement.

Halston recently appeared on Broadway in the revivals of Twentieth Century and Gypsy. The character actress has also appeared in the Roundabout Theatre Company's revivals of The Women and The Man Who Came to Dinner as well as Off-Broadway in The Butter and Egg Man.

Reg E. Cathey and Lynn Whitfield star as the wealthy white couple who wake up black in the work by New Yorker cartoonist and writer William Hamilton. Previews begin Sept. 21. The show opens at the Century Center for the Performing Arts Oct. 6.

The Culture Project and Allan Buchman in association with Nile Rogers We are Family Foundation present the work that also stars Erik Laray Harvey (The Exonerated, Where's My Money), Paul H. Juhn (wAve, Destination America) and Samantha Soule (Dinner at Eight, Valhalla).

White Chocolate centers on Brandon (Cathey) and Deborah Beale (Whitfield), a married and affluent couple living on New York City's Upper West Side who are readying themselves for the announcement of the husband's appointment as director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. However, things don't go exactly as planned when the white couple awake to find their skin color has changed.

Playwright Hamilton has written for The Atlantic Monthly, Harper's Magazine and The New York Times Sunday Magazine and Gourmet in addition to his duties at the New Yorker.

The design team for White Chocolate includes James Noone (set), David Weiner (lighting) and David Zinn (costume).

Tickets to White Chocolate, at the Century Center for the Performing Arts, 111 East 15 Street, are available by calling (212) 239-6200. For more information on The Culture Project, visit the website at http://www.45bleecker.com.
