William Hamilton's play White Chocolate which finds an affluent white couple waking up black begins its world premiere Sept. 26 at the Century Center for the Performing Arts.

The Culture Project and Allan Buchman in association with Nile Rogers We are Family Foundation present the work to open Off-Broadway, Oct. 6. David Schweizer (Wintertime) directs.

White Chocolate centers on Brandon (Cathey) and Deborah Beale (Whitfield), a married and affluent couple living on New York City's Upper West Side who are readying themselves for the announcement of the husband's appointment as director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. However, things don't go exactly as planned as the white couple awake to find their skin color has changed. Added to that is the fact that their daughter returns home to announce her engagement to her Chinese-American boyfriend.

Reg E. Cathey ("Everyday People") and Lynn Whitfield ("The Josephine Baker Story") lead a cast that includes Julie Halston (Twentieth Century,Gypsy), Erik Laray Harvey (The Exonerated, Where's My Money), Paul H. Juhn (wAve, Destination America) and Samantha Soule (Dinner at Eight, Valhalla).

Cathey has played on Broadway in The Green Bird and Off-Broadway in Talk, Taming of the Shrew, Hamlet, Macbeth, Crowbar and Bad Penny. He has also appeared in such films as "S.W.A.T.," "A Cold Day in August," "Pooty Tang," "American Psycho," "Seven," "Clear and Present Danger" and "What About Bob?"

Whitfield is known for her turns in film and television in "The Thin Line Between Love and Hate," "Eve's Bayou" and her Emmy Award-winning turn in "The Josephine Baker Story." Her stage credits include the national tours of The Great MacDaddy Musical and For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf.

Halston recently appeared on Broadway in the revivals of Twentieth Century and Gypsy. The character actress has also appeared in the Roundabout Theatre Company's revivals of The Women and The Man Who Came to Dinner as well as Off-Broadway in The Butter and Egg Man.

Playwright Hamilton has written for The Atlantic Monthly, Harper's Magazine and The New York Times Sunday Magazine and Gourmet in addition to his cartoonist and writer duties at the New Yorker.

The design team for White Chocolate includes James Noone (set), David Weiner (lighting) and David Zinn (costume).
