Arkin and Hopkins to Star in Mufti's Henry, Sweet Henry; Complete Cast Announced

By Andrew Gans
05 Oct 2004

Matthew Arkin, Kaitlin Hopkins, Mark Nelson and Miriam Shor will head the cast of Henry, Sweet Henry, the opening presentation of the York Theatre Company's Fall 2004 Musicals in Mufti season.

The cast features Mark Nelson as Henry Orient, Kaitlin Hopkins as Mrs. Boyd, Matthew Arkin as Mr. Boyd, Anne Letscher as Valerie, Katie Adams as Gil, Sara Inbar as Kafritz and Miriam Shor as Stella/Mrs. Cooney/Mrs. Gilbert. The ensemble comprises Cathryn Basile, Alexis Grausz, Lexy Fridell, Gwen Hollander, Lauren Molina and Roland Rusinek.

Based on Nora Johnson's novel "The World of Henry Orient," Henry, Sweet Henry features a book by Nunnally Johnson and a score by Bob Merrill. Gordon Greenberg will direct the York run of the musical that originally played Broadway's Palace Theatre in 1967. David Kirshenbaum is the musical director for Henry, Sweet Henry, which runs at the York Oct. 8 (8 PM), Oct. 9 (2:30 and 8 PM) and Oct. 10 (2:30 and 7:30 PM).

The musical, according to production notes, concerns "two teenage girls and their obsession with an avant-garde composer."

The Musicals in Mufti season continues Oct. 15-17 with Twenty Fingers, Twenty Toes. The musical — to be directed by Jay Binder — features a score by Michael Dansicker and a book by Dansicker and Bob Nygro. The fall season concludes with Frank Loesser's Greenwillow. Directed by Michael Montel, the musical will run Oct. 22-24. Greenwillow features music and lyrics by Loesser and a book by Loesser and Lesser Samuel. Nominated for six Tony Awards, Greenwillow originally played Broadway's Alvin Theatre March 8, 1960-May 28, 1960.

Tickets are priced at $35; a three-show Mufti subscription is available for $90 by calling (212) 868-4444.

The York Theatre Company, dedicated to developing and fully producing new musicals, and preserving neglected, notable shows from the past, is located at the Theatre at Saint Peter's in the Citigroup Center, 619 Lexington Avenue. For more information visit www.yorktheatre.org.
