Lisa Brescia, who was the final actress to portray Amneris in the long running Disney musical Aida, will be part of the cast of the upcoming reading of the new musical Piece.

Piece, which features music by Scott Alan and a book by Tara Smith, will be presented Oct. 17 at Makor. The cast will include Brescia as well as Beth Thompson, Courtney Balan and Kate Wetherhead. Schele Williams will direct the 7 PM reading, which features musical direction by Kimberly Grigsby. Jesse Vargas is the associate musical director.

Piece, according to production notes, "tells the story of one woman’s journey of self-discovery. Played by four actresses, the 44-year-old central character, Katherine, recalls her life through the eyes of her 17-, 26- and 35-year-old selves. In order to find herself, she must relive the pivotal moments of her past."

On Broadway Lisa Brescia has been seen in Aida and Jesus Christ Superstar. Her regional credits include A Little Night Music; Brigadoon; and Actor, Lawyer, Indian Chief. A graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Brescia toured worldwide as Mama with The Mamas and the Papas.

The reading of Piece is part of The Artists Showcase Series created by Geoffrey Soffer. A portion of the proceeds from the evening will be donated to Gilda's Club New York City. Visit www.showcaseseries.org for more information.

Makor is located in Manhattan at 35 West 67th Street. Tickets, priced at $15, are available by calling (212) 601-1000 or by logging on to www.makor.org.
