York's Daisy and Violet Hilton Musical, Twenty Fingers, Twenty Toes, Plays Oct. 15-17

By Andrew Gans
15 Oct 2004

Twenty Fingers, Twenty Toes, the second presentation of the York Theatre Company's fall 2004 Musicals in Mufti season, begins performances Oct. 15.

The musical, originally produced by the WPA Theatre in 1989, concerns the story of conjoined twins Violet and Daisy Hilton. The Hilton sisters, who became famed Vaudeville performers and were seen in the cult classic film "Freaks," were also the inspiration for the 1997 Broadway musical Side Show. Twenty Fingers, Twenty Toes features music and lyrics by Michael Dansicker and a book by Dansicker and Bob Nigro.

The cast of the musical comedy includes Jenna Coker (Hanna/Daisy), Alicia Sable (Helen/Violet), Beth McVey (Auntie Verna), Paul Kandel (Myer Myers), James Stovall (Bert/Bertha) and Mark Price (Quick Change Artist). Twenty Fingers is directed by Jay Binder with musical direction by Lawrence Yurman and plays the York Oct. 15 at 8 PM, Oct. 16 at 2:30 and 8 PM and Oct. 17 at 2:30 and 7:30 PM. Audience discussions will follow each matinee.

The fall Musicals in Mufti season concludes with Frank Loesser's Greenwillow. Directed by Michael Montel, the musical will run Oct. 22 24. Greenwillow features music and lyrics by Loesser and a book by Loesser and Lesser Samuel. Nominated for six Tony Awards, Greenwillow originally played Broadway's Alvin Theatre March 8, 1960 May 28, 1960.

Tickets are priced at $35; a three-show Mufti subscription is available for $90 by calling (212) 868-4444.

The York Theatre Company, dedicated to developing and fully producing new musicals, and preserving neglected, notable shows from the past, is located at the Theatre at Saint Peter's in the Citigroup Center, 619 Lexington Avenue. For more information visit www.yorktheatre.org.
